For years people have been telling me about Yellow Dog Eats. I can’t explain why it took me so long to finally try it, but the day finally came this past Saturday when Ashley & I made lunch plans but had no particular restaurant in mind.
It was a beautiful (albeit toasty) Saturday, so we ventured over to Gotha to check out Yellow Dog Eats. The restaurant is in what appears to be a converted old house. As first-timers, I’d say it took us a few minutes to figure out the setup at YDE. When you walk in, you’re immediately standing among the other patrons either waiting or ordering their food (you order at the counter). There’s seating, but tables are also surrounded by wine that’s sold by the bottle and an assortment of Yellow Dog Eats merchandise. The atmosphere might scare off a few people because it’s a lot to take in at first, but the staff (including Chef Fish Morgan) are so damn friendly and helpful that you’d be crazy not to stick around.
I loved everything about the pulled pork sandwich I ordered including the mustard-based BBQ sauce. The portion was huge and the price was right ($8.95). My lunch was made infinitely better by the fact that they had one of my favorite beers on draft (Lost Coast Tangerine), oh and speaking of beer … happy hour is every day from 2-5 p.m.
Yellow Dog Eats has seating indoors and out, which is great if you plan to bring your pup along (they’re dog-friendly). Oh, and save room for dessert … the assortment of baked goods just waiting to be devoured was insane.
