Did you know there’s a National Tequila Day? Yup, it’s tomorrow, July 24th. I suppose we’ll find any reason to celebrate drinking (hey…make no mistake – I’m not complaining!). So who better to throw a party in recognition of this day than downtown Orlando’s Wall Street Plaza?

If you like Tequila and Margaritas then you’ll definitely want to check-out Margarita Fest. This 21-and-up event is from 4:00pm-8:00pm, is $15 in advance and $20 “at the door”, and offers bottomless margaritas. Sounds like a party to us!

For the past two weeks, I’ve been participating in the Chevy Girl on the Go program. I’ve said it in Tweets, in person, on Facebook, here on the blog and to anyone and everyone who’ll listen: it’s been a great experience. Not only have I had the opportunity to drive one of the most fun cars I’ve driven in years, but our “little blog that could” has gotten some terrific exposure.

Thanks to the Orlando Sentinel’s Sarah Lundy, we were featured on the front page of the Orlando Sentinel, and also on OrlandoSentinel.com.

We started this blog more than 2 years ago so we could share our experiences in Central Florida and tell whoever would listen that there’s more to this town than Mickey (although we love them, too!) and we hope you’ll continue to come along for the ride. Thanks for reminding me (us) that Anything is Possible.

Ever since the Gospel Brunch at House of Blues has been around I’ve been wanting to go. It’s just one of those things I’ve never gotten around to doing. I had a friend that worked for House of Blues several years ago and and he was constantly raving about the Brunch; I currently have a friend that can’t say enough about it either. So I’m thrilled that Kim and I are going to get our chance to find out what it’s all about in a couple of weeks.

The music is supposedly very inspiring, and the food incredible (soul food that I’m very much looking forward to). You can check-out the delicious menu here.

If you’d like to experience the Gospel Brunch it’s every Sunday, at 10:30am and 1:00pm. Tickets are only available at the House of Blues Box Office and run as follows:

• Adults (10-years-old and up): $33.50
• Children (3-9-years-old): $17.25
• Children (2 and under): FREE

Yoga-It-Up!

I’ve been slightly interested in trying out yoga for several years now, but for some reason something’s been holding me back (probably my lack of flexibility…literally). But when a friend of mine from work was talking about it recently, I thought, what better time to give-it-a-shot than now. I get to experience it and also share it with you guys! (I’ve also somehow convinced Kim to let me drag her along with me.)

So where have we chosen to embark on this new adventure? Why, Orlando Power Yoga (upon my friend’s recommendation). One of the cool things I noticed about Orlando Power Yoga when I first visited their website, is the fantastic deal they offer new students: “40 Days, 40 Dollars.” Not too shabby…. We recently had the opportunity to check out Mi Tomatina Paella Bar for dinner. In all honesty, it wasn’t our first choice, but from the street the atmosphere was too inviting to pass up.

Mi Tomatina, named after the “fun-filled tomato festival La Tomatina in Spain,” is a small, but cozy tapas & paella restaurant in Winter Park’s highly coveted Hannibal Square.

Since they seemed to be known for their paella, we figured that was a good option for our meal. We were told up-front that their paella takes about 30 minutes to prepare/cook, so we weren’t surprised when it took a while for the food to arrive. The verdict? Overcooked paella. I’m sure it’s more authentic the way it was served with its chicken in the form of drumettes and shrimp WITH THE HEAD ON … but I prefer not to see the eyes of the shrimp when it’s on the way to my tummy.

I give Mi Tomatina a thumbs-up for atmosphere and friendly service, but I thought the paella was no es bueno.

Remember last week when we posted about a charity event for Lyme Disease? Well, there was a fantastic turnout at downtown Orlando’s The Other Bar (thanks, Central Florida Peeps!) and we managed to get some great photos of the people who showed-up. I’m always on the lookout for fun things to do in Central Florida, so when I heard about the Grande Lakes Adventure Course, I had to check it out.

While I believe this is primarily marketed to guests of the multiple Grande Lakes properties (Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes and JW Marriott Grande Lakes), this and other recreation activities are open to the public.

There are two courses to choose from. The Discovery Course consists of 35 Aerial Walkways, a Zip Line and a Swing. The Exploration Course seems more geared to a younger audience, or maybe those afraid of heights, as it’s only set 15-feet above ground.

We opted to skip the Adventure Course on our trip to Grande Lakes because it was a scorcher of a day in Orlando this past Saturday, but I’m definitely looking forward to swinging on the ropes when the weather gets a little cooler.
