Who’s Matt Shenk?

A couple weeks ago, while having a drink at 310 Park South in Winter Park, I was lucky enough to catch Matt Shenk perform. I know what you’re thinking … typical bar performance with sub-par vocals and 3-chord guitar strumming. Nope. Not even close.

I’m a sucker for the male singer-songwriter (think John Mayer, DMB, Ray LaMontagneJason Mraz, etc.) so when Matt’s version of Dave Matthews Band’s “Typical Situation” was almost better than the original, I sat up and paid attention.

Do yourself a favor, head over to Matt’s website and catch his cover of “Mercy Mercy Me,” I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.  And, if you’re in Winter Park tomorrow night, you can catch him performing at 310.

Out and About

Good luck with that!

Top 5 Things I Learned at the Rays’ Game Last Night

  1. Despite the name, the Tampa Bay Rays’mascot is neither a Sting Ray nor a Manta Ray. It is, however, a “Ray of Sunlight.” Does this look like a Ray of Sunlight to you?!?!
  2. Ray of Sunlight?!

  3. Even though ESPN ran a poorly timed story about Concession Food, I feel just fine after splurging on my once-a-year hot dog. Thank you very much.
  4. The Camaro‘s awesome “Rear Parking Assist” feature, or what I like to call the “Beep, Beep, BEEEEEEEEEP” feature, does not make me a better parallel parker.
  5. Evan Longoria and Eva Longoria are not the same people.
  6. Tropicana Field is indoors and feels a little like going to a baseball game under the Big Top.
  7. Trop Field B&W Version ... Feels a Little Nostalgic, huh?

Out and About: A Little Self-Promotion?

Hey…sometimes a little shameless self-promotion is in order. So, on a recent trip to Finnhenry’s in downtown Orlando, I felt led to to help spread the word about the awesomeness of “Pulse” by writing our url on the bathroom wall.

Ok, maybe not the most prestigious way to promote ourselves, but…you know….

Better than a phone number...

What’s Your Beef? in Downtown Orlando

Since I both live and work in the downtown Orlando area, I must admit it is sometimes a challenge to find new-and-interesting things to do and places to go (yes, I know I need to expand my distance reach out more). Particularly when it comes to eating; I love to eat. I’ve been eyeing What’s Your Beef? on Washington Street for some time now, and finally made it over to see what they’ve got going on with their menu.

What's Your Beef? Menu

The interior is quaint and clean (a big thing in my book), and the staff are incredibly friendly.

I’ve been on a mild health kick as of late, so although there are many delicious things featured on the menu (they specialize in hot dogs, hot sandwiches, and italian beef), I opted for a chef salad. And I was very pleased to see the salad featured “healthy” lettuce versus plain old iceburg. Honestly, I can say this is one of the best salads I’ve had…in the downtown Orlando area, at least.

My friend that I was with opted for a pressed Ham & Cheese sandwich, and said it was quite tasty.

All-in-all I have to give What’s Your Beef? two thumbs up. Definitely worth a repeat trip…to try something different on the menu.

SPCA’s ”Bully Beach Bash and Backyard BBQ”

Earlier this morning I caught a Tweet from the SPCA of Central Florida, and just had to shed some light on this great upcoming event:

Now, I have a cat and I’m quite certain he wouldn’t be agreeable to dragging him along to this event, but if you’re a pitbull owner you might want to consider this as a great way to connect with other pitbull owners. Please note: It is requested that you RSVP if you plan on attending.

If you end-up going please take photos of the event and feel free to share them with us. We’d love to feature them here on the blog.

Ash Checks Out the Camaro

Okay … this made me giggle out loud.

Note: This was not edited, so I’d like to believe that this was Ashley’s legit reaction to the 2010 Chevy Camaro I’m driving for Girlfriend Getaway Florida.

Blue Bird Bake Shop Opens in Audubon Park

We have it on good authority the Blue Bird Bake Shop we wrote about a couple of months ago is now open. We’ll have to make a trip over there very soon and snag some delicious treats (and pics). In the meantime, visit The Daily City to check-out photos of the shop.

Oh…and YUM!

Cool Off This Summer with Honest Tea

Brink Magazine has been good to us. So when Kyle, Brink Editor-in-Chief & Founder, told us he also works with Honest Tea and asked us if we’d like a sample we said, “Heck ya!” I’ll be honest, when he said he would drop off said samples to me at work I was expecting a box of tea bags, so you can imagine my surprise when this is what I found:

Honest Tea Samples

My Favorite: Pomegranite Blue

After having given the Honest Ade (the tea version) a try, I’m pleased to say I’ve found a new way to beat this stinkin’Central Florida heat! I highly recommend it!

If you want more info on organic tea then be sure to check-out the Honest Tea website: http://www.honesttea.com/. To purchase simply pay a visit to your local Publix or CVS.

NOTE: While we did receive free samples of this product we were not asked to endorse it in return. We are simply promoting this product because we like it and enjoy the taste.
