From the Streets
You know what I like about Good Friday? It’s the only holiday with a positive word in it! I mean, it’s already telling you that it’s going to be a “good” day!”

Finally had the chance to check out the Orlando Brewing Company this past weekend. Not only was I surprised by how good the band was, but I also learned that the brewery is the only certified organic brewery in Florida … how cool is that?
I’m kind of a beer wimp, so I tried the Orlando Brewing Blonde Ale … I found it to be quite enjoyable, and at $4 a pint, you can’t really beat it.
Next time you’re looking for something to do other than hitting up the typical Downtown bar scene, head over to the Orlando Brewing Company for some good beer, nice folks and music.
Calling all Star Wars fans!
Dates for Disney’s annual Star Wars Weekends have been announced. They are as follows:
Star Wars Weekends is something both locals and tourists look forward to every year. If you’re not familiar, this event celebrates the phenomenon that is Star Wars, and features special events, shows, memorabilia, and more! This is not a special event that requires a separate ticket; regular admission tickets give guests access.
We’ve never experienced Star Wars Weekends but would definitely love to check-it-out this year.
You can get complete information on this event here.
Monday: Sweet! Waka Flocka Flame. Band fronted by Fozzie Bear of Muppets fame?
(Location: Tabu Nightclub on Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando.)
Didn’t even know Disney’s Blizzard Beach–one of two massive Disney water parks–was even closed? The park has actually been shut down since early January (a slow tourism season for Central Florida) for refurbishments. But just in time for Spring the park is scheduled to reopen on the 24th of this month.
We’ve never been to Blizzard Beach but have heard great things about it! Have you been?
You can purchase tickets to the park here. (In the interest of disclosure, this is not an affiliate link.)

Have you ever experienced Popcorn Flicks in beautiful Winter Park’s Central Park? This series of classic films is totally free, so you have no excuse not to…particularly if you’re ever looking for something different to do in Central Florida. (A couple of years ago we wrote about the “Casablanca” showing.)
You can actually find out about the history of this series of showings by visiting Enzian’s website. This includes the schedule of all upcoming films.
This coming Thursday, March 24th, you can watch “Fantastic Voyage”. Bring a blanket, maybe some cheese & wine, and hang out with a few good friends. It’s a great way to wind down the workweek and start the weekend!
Here’s a little about the film, in case you’re not familiar with it:
An important scientist is attacked by assassins and almost killed. When traditional medical methods are exhausted, a crew of scientists is shrunk to microscopic size and injected into the scientist’s body to destroy a blood clot and save his life. An exciting adventure with colorful special effects. “
Location of Central Park:
CENTRAL PARK
251 Park Avenue South
Winter Park, FL 32789
There’s plenty of parking in the area, including a nearby garage for your convenience.
Indie musician Ingrid Michaelson pays a visit to Central Florida later this week. If you don’t recognize her by name, you might recognize the song that brought her much attention:
Michaelson will not only be performing at the House of Blues Orlando venue this Friday evening, she’s also appearing at a special “lunch” meet-and-greet at the wonderful Park Avenue CDs. Park Ave is always doing these types of things for music fan. If you’ve never been you should check-them-out.
For complete information on Ingrid Michaelson’s show at House of Blues click here. Details on her special performance at Park Avenue CDs can be found at ParkAveCDs.com.
We probably won’t be able to make either appearance so if you happen to catch one or both please share your experience(s) with us!
We were recently contacted and asked to help promote a unique, upcoming event in Central Florida called “The City Scramble”. Now, we don’t promote every single thing we’re contacted about (we’re not that easy!) but this event sounded too cool to pass up.
An “Amazing Race”-type event, The Scramble is a team adventure through the heart of downtown Orlando. Here’s a little about the “scramble”:
On March 27, The City Scramble will take place in downtown Orlando! Teams of two will compete in a race much like the one you see on “Amazing Race.” There are a set of clues to figure out that will determine your race course, a few challenges to take on along the way and a $500 prize to the first place team! The top 3 teams all receive a race medal and free entry to a second race of their choice! There are 6 cities The City Scramble will take place in this year.”
Complete details about the event can be found here. And if you’re one of the participants please feel free to share your experience with us afterward.
