Downtown Orlando’s Ceviche

You may not be familiar with Ceviche Orlando, given the fact it’s sorta tucked-away in rarely visited downtown Orlando’s Church Street. I actually went there with a group of friends for the first time a couple of weeks ago. “Interesting experience” is sorta my take on the place.

Good:

The atmosphere is really great. Large, open dining room, bar that overlooks the main room. Very cool, and different from other venues located in the downtown Orlando area. There’s a great community feel, and I really like that. This was certainly one of the most positive aspects of the experience.

Not-so-good:

The service was incredibly slow. Granted, our party was fairly large but in my opinion the service shouldn’t suffer for that. We only had one waiter dedicated to our party; a second server would’ve certainly helped out.

Coupled with the rather slow service, the waiter had a not-so-pleasant attitude. He actually dropped the “f bomb” to one of my friends, which I thought was inappropriate.

My last beef with Ceviche in downtown Orlando is the menu. While there’s some really great dishes available, there is a lot of seafood…and I’m not a huge seafood fan. I ended-up having some amazing meatballs, but items of that nature were few-and-far-between.

All-in-all I’d have to say I feel so/so about Ceviche. As with any restaurant I’m definitely willing to give it another shot, but there have to be some major improvements before I give-up some glowing reviews. Ceviche: wanna have me come back and have another meal?

“There’s a lot of seafood”? Didn’t you bother to find out what Ceviche mean? I can’t imagine why they would want to change their menu just to get you back. Oh and I don’t want to ruin it for you, but “Crab House” serves seafood too, you might want to avoid it. And “Pizza Hut”? Pizza … shh.

@Stunned in Orlando Actually, no…I didn’t do research prior. I just went to meet-up with some friends.

Most “seafood” places, however, offer-up a decent variety of dishes for those who don’t prefer seafood. It doesn’t matter though – the company I was with made-up for any of the restaurant’s shortcomings.

I’d never ask for Ceviche to change their menu for me – I’m not that high-maintenance.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Hope you can make it back.

P.S. Thanks for the heads-up on the crab house – I don’t think I’ll be visiting any time soon. :)

I completely agree with your review. I have had various positive and few and far between not so hot experiences here and am always SO excited to introduce people to it. So, when this experience wasn’t the best…I was a bit sad.

Agree with the “great community feel” – I get that too and it’s a huge positive! I also have to point out that they have some AWESOME white sangria! ;o) Just sayin.

As far as the service…I would like to clarify that I called one week ahead and notified them of our huge party. Also, I requested a certain area and they said no problem! So when we arrived and they not only did NOT put us in that area…they also only had one server for our table? A table of 20….#FAIL. And I was not impresses with the attitude of our server either, it was actually shocking. When I say “Thank You” don’t respond with a comment that basically says, yeah you better be thankful. Bullsh*t, you better be thankful I brought 20 people to your establishment *ss. Grrrrr….customer service, so easy yet so easily tossed aside.

All in all I would suggest heading back with just a few people and hope that you get a better experience. For someone who is not a fan of seafood…my suggestions: House Salad, it’s sooooo tasty and the pork on the bone…#YUM!

    Great review!

Went yesterday, just the two of us. Had a gift card which we got from half off depot ($50 for $23!)

I disagree that there’s too much seafood – the tapas menu was evenly divided between seafood, fish and vegetable dishes.

Love the more adventurous ingredients (frogs legs, escargot). Flavour of everything we had was excellent (baby lamb chops were particularly excellent).

The only complaint could possibly be the noise – the dining room is cavernous and it was almost hard to speak over the noise of everyone else in there.

    Would definitely return.

@Gareth Glad you had a nice experience, and thanks for sharing it with us. I’ll definitely have to head back to Ceviche sometime soon and give it another try.

I *love* Ceviche. I’ve been twice and can’t wait to go back. Gotta try their fried eggplant … it’s sliced thin like a potato chip and you dip it in honey. Divine! And, they have a potato app that is magnificent. Just ask the server for their popular potato item and you’ll get the right one. It is wonderful, in a rich cream sauce.

And, they make a Crown Royal apple martini. OMG.

@Alicia OK, I’m definitely going to have to give it another shot. Like I said, I’m always willing to go twice.

    Thanks for the feedback!
