Green Beach Weekend

beachHeading to the beach this weekend? Why not add a little green to your beach day.  Invite some friends to carpool to reduce your carbon emissions. Start the day with some good deeds by participating in a beach clean up.  Keep Brevard Beautiful hosts beach clean ups every Saturday at Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach from 8am -12pm.  Get a little workout and build up an appetite and check out The Sunseed Food Coop on A1A in Cape Canaveral where you can pick up some organic food for your day in the sun.

Looking for an undeveloped beach, the way nature made it?  Check out the Canaveral National Seashore.  It’s about 20 minutes north of Cape Canaveral. It’s the closest National Park to Orlando.  Lucky for you, you can enjoy free admission to all National Parks on June 20-21, July 18-19, and August 15-16.  Canaveral National Seashore is a sanctuary for wildlife and is also home to an ancient Seminole Indian settlement, Central Florida’s original treehuggers.

Awesome! One of my favorite organizations is the Surfrider Foundation. They do a lot of beach cleanups. The Central Florida chapter is always looking for members.

@Kim, I’m a Surfrider member as well, and the newly formed Cocoa Beach chapter helps replenish the dunes by planting Sea Oats and Grapes which is funner than garbage pick up !
