So Long, CeFiore

UPDATE: Just read over at the Weekly, that a deal may be in the works for a new buyer to snatch up and reopen CeFiore. Viva la Fro Yo!

CeFiore, the Pinkberry-esque Frozen Yogurt shop in College Park, is closing.

In a printed note taped to the door and counter, the store’s owner, Graham Barrett, says the store will be closing for good … a victim of “the economic times.”

CeFiore has only been open since June 21, 2008, and had intended to open additional locations in the fall.

As a resident of College Park, I have to tell you, this one just sucks.

Winter Park Hates Pets, but Loves Art

Looking for something to do next weekend … how about the 50th Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival?

2009-poster

Not sure if this was always the case, but the Festival’s Web site makes a point to mention (rather abruptly), NO PETS ALLOWED IN THE PARK!

The Festival begins along Central Park on Park Avenue Friday, March 20, and runs through Sunday, March 22.

Dear Orlando Leaders: Is Cady Way Safe?

A little more than a year ago, I blogged about a few of the trails I like in Central Florida. Since today starts the first week of Daylight Saving Time, I’m getting back into my after-work riding routine.

After the recent reminders in the news about Nicole Ganguzza‘s death, an otherwise normal ride today left me wondering if my ride along Cady Way Trail was really safe.

The areas I find slightly sketchy are between miles 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, which are lined with woods on either side, and just past the bridge that crosses over Semoran Blvd. between miles 4 1/2 and 5 1/2.

So, have you spent any time on the Cady Way Trail? What are your thoughts? And, what can our county/city leaders do to assure us that they’re keeping these areas safe?

Virgin Megastores Closing

Bummer! Just read over at the Sentinel’s site that one of Orlando’s best music stores is closing.

Virgin Megastores will close all six of their stores, including the massive location at Downtown Disney.

Thankfully, we still have the No. 1 music store in Central FL:  Park Avenue CDs.

Believe it, Or Not!

Akeorlando & I spent our Sunday afternoon playing tourist. First, we had lunch at the Village Tavern just outside Mall at Millenia, then it was off to visit one of International Drive’s attractions … Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Since neither of us had ever been to Ripley’s Orlando, we weren’t sure what to expect … so we snapped a couple photos and headed inside. I took the fact that there were a few people ahead of us in line as a good sign.

After checking in (thanks for the tickets, Joe!), we made our way into the ‘museum.’ There was a bit of a backlog because the entry hallway doesn’t allow for much more than a single-file line. Soon we were able to pass through and made our way into 1982. That’s right, it truly was like stepping back in time. Not sure when this particular location opened, but needless to say that it needed a little update.

Ripley’s did have some pretty cool stuff, like this Mummy:

And a to-scale Rolls Royce made of Matchsticks. They even featured dog goodies from local dog bakery, Bark Avenue Bakery in their dog/cat room.

It was a pretty fun experience all in all, but I think at $18.95 per adult that it’s an overpriced attraction. Bring your kids under 3 for free, or pay $11.95 per child age 4 to 12.

Ripley’s is open 365 days a year from 9:30 a.m. to Midnight. Ripley’s is located in the heart of I-Drive at 8201 International Drive.

Out and About

Klynn and I were out earlier today doing some “research” for the blog (post to come in the near future), and in doing so I stumbled across this hilarious photo. I just don’t want to know “what it is I shouldn’t be looking into”:
