Coming Soon: Bullitt in Downtown Orlando

Bullit in Orlando

Upon second glance this is not a promo for a movie. A little research didn’t reveal too much other than Bullitt is a new nightclub hitting the downtown Orlando scene soon.

Do you have info you can share?

People Pulse: Miss Britt

As you know we here at “Pulse of Central Florida” like highlighting folks in the area who are doing some interesting and cool things, that are making an impact. Sometime last year I discovered a Central Florida blogger who has entertained and amused me, and I wanted to introduce her to you. You may know her already. She is Miss Britt and she is a firecracker!

Get to know Britt a little:

Q: You share just about everything in your life with your blog readers. Do you blog about anything that just pops into your head? Or do you think about the content you post on your site ahead of time?
A: Both.  I use an app on my iPhone to jot down ideas for posts on the various blogs that I write for as they come up.  When I sit down to blog sometimes I’ll go through that list.  Other times I turn on the computer and stare at the blank screen with absolutely nothing to say.  And still other times, I try to avoid writing about the things that are plaguing me until I finally decide I can’t move on until I get it out.

Q: You often talk about things some might consider “adult” content. Is this ever an issue with your family (husband or kids)?
A: You make it sound like I write porn!  Ironically, people often refer to the “adult” content I write, but I never write about my sex life.

The bottom line is, no.  My husband has known me along time and nothing on my blog is a vast departure from what he has to deal with in real life.  My parents have always been amazing about seeing me as a whole person, so it doesn’t seem to bother them much.

My kids are too little to read blogs.  Once in a while I’ll show my nine year old a post if I’ve written something for a birthday or something.  My daughter, who is almost four, likes to see pictures of herself and people she knows.  But beyond that, that’s an adult space.   I have no problem telling my kids that some things – like some TV shows or movies – are for adults or just for Mom and Dad.

New Jimmy John’s Shop in Downtown Orlando

Folks living or working in the downtown Orlando area are craving new places to eat. Case-in-point one of my friends and I decided to check-out the new Jimmy John’s sandwich shop that recently opened in downtown Orlando only to find this:

P1000680

Fortunately the line moved quickly and we were able to order within minutes. My friend has been raving about Jimmy John’s for weeks-and-weeks (she’s a very picky eater and loves their “Plain Slims” offerings) so I was anxious to experience something new. I ordered the “Billy Club”* with no mustard, tomato, or mayo (hey…I’m picky, too) and added onion and sprouts:

While it wasn’t bad, I have to admit I’m not raving like my friend was. It was actually pretty average, although the portions were very big as you can see. I’m a fair person though, so I’m willing to give it another try. I still love my Pita Pit….

Have you been to a Jimmy John’s before? For additional locations in the Central Florida area click here. If you’d like to see what kind of sandwiches are available you can check-out their menu before heading to one of their restaurants.

* note, when ordering it’s best to order the “number” of your sandwich

B.B. King’s Blues Club at Pointe Orlando

Last night I went to dinner with some friends and business colleagues, and ended-up going somewhere I probably never would have. Mainly because I’m not really a fan of “the blues.” I’m talking about B.B. King’s Blues Club at Pointe Orlando*. Now, if you’re an avid “Pulse” reader you already know how I feel about the International Drive area, but I’m finding more-and-more “gems” in the area that are worth checking out. B.B. King’s included!

The vibe in the restaurant/bar/club is soulful and energetic. If you’re looking for a quiet place to go and catch-up with friends or family…this is not the place to go. So be forewarned…. But if you want entertainment, celebration, and food-you-know-you-shouldn’t-eat-but-you-just-can’t-help-yourself then you’ve hit the jackpot!

On the menu you’ll find anything-and-everything fried (chicken, catfish, hush puppies, pickles) to BBQ chicken and french fries. If you dare you can see what else is on the menu. Feel like you’re having a heart attack yet? Then get-up off your chair and head over to the dance floor where you can break-it-down to the live band. You can expect something like this:

Not Really a “Junkie” So Much Anymore

I’m a big, big fan of Cowboy Junkies.  Have been for years-and-years.  Now…well, I’m definitely still a fan but have to admit my admiration has been lessened a bit (and it’s not the band’s fault).

See Cowboy Junkies are coming in concert to Orlando. I really would like to go but their tickets are upwards of $40 ($36.50 to be exact), and while I’m all about the concerts, times are tough right now and I think that’s a bit much for just “watching a band.” Particularly one that’s been around so long and somewhat quiet in the US market.

So upon the recommendation of another Central Florida blogger and Twitter Tweep I decided to contact the band’s press person, and see if I could leverage “Pulse of Central Florida” as a means to get two (2) tickets. I offered-up pre-promotion, coverage, and post-promotion of the concert to the Central Florida market.

Apparently this wasn’t the best idea. Here’s the response I got from the press person:

…and there you have it. So it looks like I won’t be seeing Cowboy Junkies this time ’round. But if you’re interested you can catch them at The Plaza Theatre on Wednesday, February 11th. You can also get more information about the band by visiting their website

Out and About (sensored?)

I’m afraid if I elaborate on this one I’ll get struck by lightning:

Out and About (sensored?)

From the Streets (Twitter Edition)

This was not only overheard by myself while out to lunch earlier today, but also overheard and Tweeted by one of my friends. I love stuff like this:

“I just realized that I came out of my Mother’s vagina. I should be nicer to her.”

(Location: Finnhenry’s in downtown Orlando.)
