Ice skating in Central Florida

Yup, I said ice skating in Central Florida. It is right on the Indian River in Historic Cocoa Village, in a tent with with a floor of ice. According to my source it only costs $7 (not sure if this is for all ages, or just for adults)! Skating on a river? Sounds like fun to me.

For additional information about this temporary ice rink click here. I might not personally get to make it over to Cocoa to enjoy this event, but if anyone else does please feel free to share your feelings here!

Thanks to @eringoesgreen (http://pulseofcentralflorida.wordpress.com/2008/11/07/people-pulse-erin-goes-green/) for sharing this.

Party with The B-52′s!

Music is an acquired taste, so to say the same thing about living legends The B-52′s is probably a big understatement. Fortunately for me, I acquired a taste for their music a long, long time ago; I was addicted after the release of “Cosmic Thing.” I’ve seen them perform multiple times and can honestly say they’re one of the greatest live bands I’ve experienced. And I’ll have the chance to see them one more time when they hit the House of Blues Orlando next February.

While it’s a bit of a drive out to the House of Blues, it’s a fantastic venue to see artists perform — there’s a great view of the stage from anywhere. Plus, if you’re into grabbing a drink or two at a show, the House of Blues has plenty of bars so there’s never too long of a wait.

Don’t remember The B-52′s too well?

Now:

Will I see there in February? You can purchase tickets here. But if you’re not up for paying to go to the show you can always enter to win two (2) free tickets over at Mix105.com.

Central Florida-Grown Superstars

When I moved to the Central Florida about 10 years ago, it was being touted as “Hollywood East” (or something similar to that). I’ve been out of the entertainment loop for quite some time now so I don’t know if that still holds true, but I’ve yet to see any really big movies filmed & produced here, or see any huge celebrities migrate to the area.

Why did I bring this up? Well, I was watching television recently and saw an interview with singer/actress Mandy Moore, who hails from one of our ‘hoods. This led me to thinking about some of the other more well-known celebrities to come out of the Orlando/Central Florida area.

Carrot Top

Here’s a collection:

> Carrot Top
> Mandy Moore
> Delta Burke
> *NSYNC
> Wayne Brady
> Cheryl Hines
> Lou Pearlman

I’ve actually seen both Carrot Top and Lou Pearlman out-and-about…separately; they are both gross. Lou, of course, is now locked-away in jail so this “sighting” was a couple of years back. I also used to know exactly where *NSYNC’s JC Chasez lived (which I’m sure would’ve been information worth tons of money to many, many girls at the time).

Have you ever had a “celebrity spotting”? Do you have a favorite Central Florida-bred celebrity? If so we’d love to hear about it.

One of those “mixed” days

We all have good days.

Bad days? I’ve certainly had my share.

But then there are those days when we just can’t seem to make up our minds:

Throwin’ down in Orlando!

You can’t imagine the temptation I had to fight not to do the Hammertime right then and there:

Like It Raw?

Like it raw? Put the brakes on: I’m talking about food here! Well-being enthusiast blogger Julie Kalivretenos recently published a post reviewing and interviewing the owner of the new Café 118° in Winter Park. If you’re a fan of raw, vegan, or vegetarian food you might want to read Julie’s post…and even take a visit to Café 118°. Me, I tend to like my food cooked so I’m not sure you’ll be seeing a review here on “Pulse” anytime soon (unless klynn ends-up doing one). But you never know…I just might get a wild hair one day!

Where Are You Doing Your Black Friday Shopping?

If you’re out-and-about today–on Black Friday–doing your holiday shopping, I think you’re a little nuts. I don’t get near that stuff. However, if you are brave enough to fight the crowds you have plenty of options of where to buy; Central Florida has tons of shopping. Personally, I think you should consider staying local and supporting your neighborhood businesses (hello, didn’t you read my post earlier this week?) but if you insist on taking the route of convenience, where do you intend on doing your shopping?

Happy Thanksgiving…

College Park diner closes after nearly 25 years

I was getting ready for work this morning when I heard a story on Wesh that a favorite diner in College Park is closing after almost a quarter of a century. OrlandoSentinel.com published a story about it, too. In order to make room for expansion at Edgewater High School the Princeton Diner will close it’s doors TODAY! So if you’re a fan, head on over for your last meal.
