A Little Press Never Hurt Anybody

Actually, a little press has helped our little blog out big-time! The post we published of the “Geezer/Dingbat” yard sign a couple of weeks ago started making its way ’round the Internet, and somehow got picked-up by AOL News. Here’s a screenshot:

Now, take a look at how this one little story impacted the traffic of our blog. I don’t want to give away any numbers, but I will say that with little marketing our blog gets a fair amount of daily traffic, but this link-in from AOL politics has given us our biggest day yet. And that’s today!

Just goes to show you never know exactly what readers are going to respond to.

Every vote counts!

I came.

I saw.

I voted.

I’m not a big fan of getting up early, but of course, voting in this election is worth losing an hour-and-a-half of sleep. Plus my voting experience only took about 10 minutes. Quick-and-easy…no pain. Head over to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections on Kaley Street for early voting; get there early to avoid long lines.

Vote, baby, vote!

Maitland’s Best-kept Secret?

Okay, so maybe it’s no secret to Maitland-ites, but Lake Lily gives Lake Eola a run for its money in the parks department.

This beautifully landscaped park is less than 5 miles from my office and I’ve driven by hundreds if not thousands of times. What’s strange? I’ve never stopped.

So today I decided to enjoy the unbelievable Central Florida weather and spend my lunch hour outdoors—Lake Lily was a logical choice.

I think these pictures (taken from my cell phone, by the way) say it all. Even taken from a crappy cell phone camera, the scenery is gorgeous.

Lake Lily features:
Five Spectacular Acres for Your Enjoyment
Picturesque Wedding Gazebo
Secluded Shady Picnic Areas
Kid’s Playground
Serene Boardwalk
Sensational Jogging Trails
Beautifully Restored Historic Waterhouse Residence Museum

Lake Lily is located at 701 Lake Lily Drive in Maitland (off 17-92, nearing Horatio)

Out and About: Tagged

Snapped these tags while out-and-about in the Altamonte Springs area this past weekend. Can’t figure out what a couple of them mean — can you help out?

What’s your favorite season here in Central Florida?

One of my biggest beefs about living here in Central Florida is the lack of seasons. I mean, it’s nearly October and I’m still sweating every time I leave the house or go outside. Of course, ironically this is the very reason many people do like living in the Central Florida region.

Even still, I’d love to have more defined seasons. Nonetheless, I’d have to say Spring is one of my favorite seasons here in Central Florida. At least the weather is still relatively mild, and the hardcore humidity hasn’t set on yet. What about you?

From the Streets (Black vs. White?)

This exchange was between two associates–one white and one black (yes, it is relevant)–at a well-known men’s clothing store:

Associate #1: This gentleman is looking for something to compliment his Willy Wonka costume for Halloween.

Associate #2: I don’t really know what Willy Wonka wore.

Associate #1: Well, it was a movie for white people; I don’t remember any black people being in it.”

Hello? Did I really just have this conversation happen in front of me?

She’s so soft and furry!”

I’m just assuming she’s talking about a cat!

A Tale about Central Florida

Most folks who know me or follow our blog, know I work for a social media marketing company. I love what I do, and my job and the environment I’m in everyday has helped me become very creative. Part of that is being involved with emerging technology; I get to see lots of things.

What I’m about to do is actually twice-borrowed (I did the same thing on our company’s blog earlier today), so yes…it’s unoriginal. But I thought I’d customize it for our little ‘ole blog here, to talk about life in Central Florida. Together we’re going to create a story about our Community. I’m going to start off with two words, Central Florida. You help create the story by adding two more words in the comments section of the post. The two words you add should be in response to the two left before it. They can be any two words you choose so who knows where the story will end up!

3…2…1…let’s go!

Low Cost Pet Vaccinations

If you’re like me and you have a pet, you’d probably love to save a few bucks on vaccinations, flea & tick meds, etc.

Nutter

Last year, while picking up some food at Pet Supermarket, I stumbled upon a flyer for low cost vaccinations and decided to give them a try.

I brought Peanut into Pet Supermarket the following Saturday and the folks from Animal Health Services took care of her. For just over $50, she got all of her necessary vaccinations (Rabies, 6 in 1, Bordetella and Heartworm) for the year! Quite a bargain when compared to what I was spending at the Vet’s office to do it.

Animal Health Services recommends taking your pet to the Vet for their annual check ups, but believes in low cost preventive care for pets.

Services are scheduled for specific days in each area, and are available first-come, first serve.

For more information about when they’ll be at your local pet store, check out their site or give them a call.

Walt Disney World closes Space Mountain

Ok, so Space Mountain–one of the Magic Kingdom’s staple attractions–is not closing. I was just conducting a little experiment to see what kind of reaction I’d get out of the post title, and show just how important a title can be. (Space Mountain could, though, use a bit of a refurbishment.)

Now that you’re here, why not share your favorite Disney story with us! I know I have plenty….
