One More Update on the SoDo Development

Yesterday afternoon I was driving by the SoDo development yet again, and thought I’d snap some photos of the progress being made. Looks like they’re really close to finishing:

I just cannot wait for that SuperTarget to open!

Do you have what it takes to be on Wheel of Fortune?

Long-time running game show “Wheel of Fortune” is making its way to the Central Florida area in October. If you sit on your couch and constantly do better than those folks on the TV, then here’s your chance to not only be a star but hopefully earn some big bucks.

Details are below. For additional information click here.

Where: Seminole Towne Center
200 Towne Center Circle
Sanford, FL 32771
When: October 4th & 5th (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: 2:00-6:00pm

I have every bit of confidence we Central Floridians can represent…and do better than these guys:

Dexter’s Winter Park: A sandwich artist’s delight

Sunday brunch. One of my favorite things to do during the week. It means it’s still the weekend, and there’s an entire day left ahead to do whatever you want.

I’ve explored many places throughout the Central Florida area for brunch (although I haven’t blogged about too many of them), and one of the consistent favorites is Dexter’s. I much more prefer the Winter Park location over the downtown location — I won’t go into detail but the downtown location had a little “health code” run-in a couple of years ago.

“So Dexter’s it is.” Today I felt more like having lunch than breakfast, and I decided to get creative and make my own sandwich. The components of my sandwich masterpiece?

- smoked turkey
- provolone cheese
- sprouts
- onions
- lettuce
- wheat bread

Pretty simple but oh-so-good:

After:

The Dexter’s menu is quite different and consists of a wide variety of dishes. The brunch menu alone is worth the trip; you’ll go crazy over the flavored $2.95 mimosas!

In addition to the great food, Dexter’s also offers-up unique, art–that’s for sale–done by local artists. Here’s a sample of what you might find:

Have you ever been to Dexter’s in Winter Park…or downtown Orlando…for brunch? If so, what’s your favorite dish?

Coffee with the [potential] President

I’m addicted to coffee. Well, addicted might be a bit of a strong word (I can function without it), but I do love mine’s coffee. Typically, on weekday mornings I bring coffee from home to the office but yesterday I made a pit-stop at a local 7-Eleven (yes, they have amazing coffee flavors!). When I went to select a cup you can imagine my surprise when I found this among my choices (below).

Now, I hadn’t heard anything about “7-Eleven” coffee cups being part of the Presidential campaign, and actually didn’t see one single John McCain cup in sight. Huh? Was this a strategic ploy by one of the employees? Or part of Mr. McCain’s plan to suspend his campaign? I decided to Google this mess but couldn’t find anything. Does anybody else know about this?

I suppose it’s just one more way Central Floridians can show their political pride.

A Sweet Ride?

You never know what a trip to the neighborhood grocery might bring. Recently, I was finishing-up a weekly replenishment of food shopping when I saw this “sweet ride” in the parking lot of the Albertson’s on the corner of Orange Avenue and Michigan Avenue:

I can’t decide if it’s really rad, or really sad. What do you think?

The “Doctor’s” in the house

I am not personally a Dr. Phil fan. Actually, I don’t even really like the dude, but that’s neither here-nor-there. One of my responsibilities as co-manager of this site is to bring happenings to Central Florida residents, so here goes:

Via Local6.com, Dr. Phil is coming to Orlando and here’s your chance to see him in-person. For a mere $43 you can hear Dr. Phil’s advice on “getting real,” and meet other local Dr. Phil-a-nites (I just made that up).

When?
Friday, October 10th
2:00pm

Where?
Orange County Convention Center
Chapin Theater
West Concourse

9800 International Drive
Orlando FL, 32819

If you do end-up attending we’d love to know about your experience. Visit this post and leave a comment to let us hear.

Mowguli Bohannon

Remember “Tink” from last week? Well, Mowguli is Tink’s twin sibling, of course with the same story. Mowguli enjoys watching Tink make an idiot of herself (don’t all siblings?) with toys and hunting through the window, playing coy while trying to get some loving, jungle beats, and moths that get in the house.

Much more shy than Tink, Mowguli spends most days basking in the sun on the bed and looking mighty cute. Mowguli has as well had his brush with death when in 2002 he was taken to the vet by his grandmother who was kind enough to house them when she noticed he wasn’t feeling well, and it turned out he had a telecoped intestine which was blocking his bowel movement. Yuck! Sadly there wasn’t much the vet said you could do for it and it would probably be fatal. Boy was the vet wrong….

Mowguli has made an full recovery and is expected to live a full and happy life, and is quickly gaining on Tink for fatness!

Pet Pulse: Tinkerbell “Tink” Bohannon

This is Tinkerbell (aka “Tink). She is about 7-years-old and enjoys playing with fake mice (whew!) and hunting squirrles, birds, and lizards thru our front picture window. Of course, like any other kitten, she loves to EAT! She has a twin sibling named Mowgli, and has survived a brush with death when she had quite a scarry seisure at the hands of a favorite toy. Her and her brother were adopted by their mother and her college roommate, and brought to Tampa for a bit.

Tink lives a very fat, happy life in Winter Park. Don’t worry though — she has not gotten all snooty about it, staying true to her simple upbringing.

Jack in the Park

I recently learned about an event benefiting one of the most worthy nonprofits around: Special Olympics Florida.

Jack is Back.001.jpg

Friday evening, November 7, Jack in the Park is being held at the Winter Park Farmer’s Market.

For a suggested $75 donation, you’ll have access to the event, which includes music by the Hindu Cowboys, full open bar, food from some of Central Florida’s finest restaurants, Silent & Live Auctions, and Blackjack & Casino gaming.

Why not head over to the Special Olympics Website and register to attend? You can enjoy a great night in the heart of Winter Park and support a worthy cause too.

Tickets are limited, so do it now!

From the Streets

From an out-of-towner at a local conference. Definitely wasn’t sure what this was referring to, at first:

mama needs a new back door.”
