When Tiger Plays, We All Win

UPDATE: After a sudden death playoff on the seventh hole, Tiger Wins the Open!

I’m no GolfWeek writer, and certainly not a life-long golf fan, but this weekend’s U.S. Open left me wanting more.

The best thing about watching a tournament like this is the hole-to-hole uncertainty of who would take home the win. He hasn’t won it yet, but Tiger Woods returns tomorrow for the playoff round against underdog, Rocco Mediate. There were players out there Friday, yesterday and for sure today who played better than Woods, but it doesn’t seem like any bring as much excitement to the sport as Tiger.

For more fist-pumping action, catch coverage of the U.S. Open playoff round tomorrow, Monday, June 16, 9 a.m. Pacific, Noon, EST.

While I enjoy watching Tiger do his magic on the course (although I’m certainly not a big golfing fan), today I’m pulling for the underdog. Should Mediate win the playoff, not only will he be the oldest player ever to win a major tournament, he’ll be the second Florida Southern College alumnus to hoist the U.S. Open trophy after friend and former classmate Lee Janzen (who, BTW, lived in Lakeland for several years and still lives in Orlando).

We have to root for Mediate. We’re Florida Southern Alumnus here! ;-)

    GO ROCCO!

    Dee & Robert,

I don’t blame you, we have some fighting Mocs over here too, but you gotta love Tiger! Rocco’s great, he’s the perfect everyman story, but nothing makes golf exciting like Tiger.
