Inside local band Megaphone

meg·a·phone [meg-uh-fohn]

Noun
1. A cone-shaped device for magnifying or directing the voice, chiefly used in addressing a large audience out of doors or in calling to someone at a distance. Compare bull horn.

Verb (used with object), verb (used without object)
2. To transmit or speak through or as if through a megaphone.

[Origin: 1875–80, Americanism; mega- + -phone]

This is what megaphone means according to dictionary.com. And I would definitely say #2 exemplifies the sound of local Orlando band Megaphone. These guys rock…and I’m not really even a fan of rock music.

A rockband through-and-through, Megaphone stays plenty busy making the rounds on the Orlando music circuit: Back Booth (which klynn75 has previously written about), Wall Street, and even House of Blues.

The drummer is a colleague of mine at work, and here’s a little something he once wrote about his band on our company blog (I’ve done a little editing):

“Matt, the singer with the purple guitar (in the video), is also an amazing drummer. He’s a percussion player at the Blue Man Group (which we’ve featured here on “Pulse”) at Universal Orlando.

James, the bass player, also plays in a cover band out at Universal Studios so if you’ve ever been out there, you may have seen him play.

Paul, the lead guitarist, is my oldest brother. He’s also had gigs as the lighting director for bands like Train, Tonic, and The Verve Pipe (you may remember their hit, “The Freshman”). He also played guitar with Seven Mary Three (their big hit was “Cumbersome” back in the 90′s).

Paul and I are also employees at Hard Rock Live which is why our light show is so freakin’spectacular.”

If you dig what you’re hearing in the video featured above, Megaphone does have an album available on iTunes, as well as through their website (http://www.megaphonemusic.net). You can also follow their appearances via their MySpace profile at MySpace.com/megaphone. To get more on Megaphone check-out their recent feature on metromix Orlando.
