Talk (Radio) to me

Ever since mainstream radio opted to play the same three songs on continuous loop, I’ve been listening to Talk Radio.  Call it the never satiated urge for learning or call me a nerd, either way, I’m hooked.

Central Florida has access to some of the greatest Talk Radio around on both sides of the dial (does anyone’s radio still have a dial?!)

In particular order of favorites:

The Philips Phile
Hosted by none other than Jim Phillips, the show is a mix of (Jim’s) opinion scattered with various tidbits from the rest of the “Phile.” They also manage to squeeze in a few news headlines and have a variety of guests as regulars to the program, including Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell. Don’t get me wrong, this is NOT a serious news program, the Phile is witty, sharp and almost always good for a laugh.
Showtime: 104.1 FM WTKS, 3 to 7 p.m. Weekdays. Also available on XM Satellite Radio Channel 152.

The Clark Howard Show
This is where the real nerd shines through! I’ve been listening to Atlanta-based Clark Howard for years … long before my move to Central Florida. A gifted goofball, Clark has done everything from news reporting to the travel business, but he shines as a consumer advocate for “saving more, spending less and avoiding rip-offs.” The show airs locally on the AM dial, but you can also check out Clark’s Web site, www.clarkhoward.com, for an amazing selection of topics from eliminating credit card debt to avoiding identity theft.
Showtime: 580 AM WDBO, 1 to 3 p.m. Weekdays.

Tied for third place:
The Shannon Burke Show
Showtime: 104.1 FM WTKS, 11 to 3 p.m. Weekdays.

Neal Boortz
Showtime: 580 WDBO, 11 to 1 p.m. Weekdays.

I love the Philips Phile! I listen to them everyday on my [four block] drive home from work. They are often really silly, but I enjoy hearing what they have to say.
